Get connected to others serving Christ through Children's Ministry.

With the Swine Flu pandemic getting more and more media attention, I got to thinking: "How are churches preparing for this year's flu season?"

Do you have a plan to help your community?
Are you taking extra steps to protect your church?

This is something I just talked about yesterday with my Sr. Pastor.

I've contacted local school districts to find out their procedures. In the mean time, in each children's area, we are posting our toy cleaning procedures (after every service) and providing hand sanitizer and tissues for each classroom. Our cleaning crew has a product that is essentially a "germ bomb" so we'll be bombing each class room regularly to help with the overall disinfecting.

I spent this past weekend going through our CM w/ cans of disenfectant spray - door handles, bathroom fixtures, handles on play fixtures (slides, ladders, etc), counter tops, etc. It smelled good when we were done!

in the Spring when they were predicting a Fall outbreak, we called a meeting with our volunteers and stepped up our Sanitation procedures, so that everyone would be reflexive with the increased sanitation procedures. We have a laminated "Sanitation Procedure" in every classroom visible to parents and a reminder for volunteers, we also have it posted at our Guest Services and Kid's Check In Kiosks. We give each kid, except infants a drop of hand sanitizer as they enter the room, after bathroom breaks, and before snacks. We have a " clean" and "to be sanitized toy box," in the younger kids after a child plays with a toy, the caregivers take it and put it in the "sanitize box" before another child can put it in their mouths. After service all used toys are sprayed with a clorox solution which kills germs instantly, some of the stuff took 10-15 minutes to work. We also use this on tables diaper changers, etc because it is instant. We are also looking at doing a streaming video in case things get so bad public gatherings are ill advised. that way people can still attend church from home. Can you tell me the name of the "Germ Bomb"?

We are taking very similar steps to those listed below: hand sanitizer in every class, lysol spray on door handles, clorox wipes for surfaces, and considering adding hand sanitizers on stands out in the entry area for parents as well.

I need to tissues! Thanks for the reminder!

Let's pray that the flu goes back into the swine!

I thought about the sanitizer on stands too- they had these on a cruise we went on this summer. Anyone know where to get them?

I have no idea...our cleaning crew has it. I'll follow up with them and find out.

We currently wash all toys and items in the Early Childhood areas after every service, with a non-toxic, bio-degradable, germ killing, child safe cleaning product. Our cleaning crew wipes and washes every door knob, handle, etc., that a child may touch during the day, throughout the entire building each night. We have also purchased a FDA approved hand sanitizer for all areas of ministry - http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/EID/vol12no03/05-0955.htm tells more about the CDC suggestions of hand sanitizer. Parents are instructed that their child cannot return for upto 7 days if flu like symtoms are dedected. This has not been a problem, because they also would rather be safe than sorry.

we have put hand sanitizer machines in every room/sapce where the elementary children meet. the machines were free from the chemical company we use. we just buy the non-alcohol based sanitizer from them. we also use a spary that works like a "bomb" and kills germs on every surface of the room it is sprayed in.

We have placed posters in every bathroom reminding people to wash hands and cover cough. There is hand sanitizer in every classs room, reception area and welcome center. I also put an article in our newsletter to parents urging them to get their information from legitimate sources, like the CDC. "You know Aunt Sallies brothers cousins son had the Swine flu and..." Rumors and ignorance will be worse than the flu.
