The Way We See It Blog

Saying Goodbye

Two years ago, the Way We See It Blog came into existence with the unique points of view of 4 children’s ministry experts.  We’ve undergone some changes since then, but we’ve all had a great time with you. Today, it’s time to say goodbye.  Ryan, Jim, and Evan are all still great buddies, but for all [...]

Team Up!

No matter how great an individual player you are, a team can make you or break you. I’ve always loved being a part of a team. I love team sports. I love playing in bands. As a children’s pastor I have worked hard assembling and developing my teams. My least favorite times in ministry [...]

Thanks-say it, show it, live it!

It is always the right thing to do to give thanks and be thankful. It’s not just a seasonal thing. It should be a way of life for the Christian. Not only should we practice thanks living but we should also practice thanks giving. All of us like to hear thank you that includes your [...]

Two Sides

If you’ve read this blog very long, you’ve probably realized by now that I love Starbucks.  I love their coffee, and I love writing about them too.  One of Starbucks’ core values is something called legendary customer service.  Legendary service means that your customer service is so great that people remember it.  Trouble is, a [...]

10 Ways to Breathe Easier in Ministry - part 5

9. Make much of prayer. We often grow weary in our service to the Lord because we try to do everything ourselves. The Lord wants to help you! Does your team recognize that prayer is a priority in your life? Is prayer a priority for your team? The team that prays together stays together! 10. Don’t [...]

How about a Family Event. Standard Publishing has 3 new family events on their website. One is called Huddle Up and it is of course a football theme. There are activities for the whole family including
* Food
* Tabletop discussion starters
* Worship
* Large-group activities
* Small-group discussion questions
* Fun giveaways

The other 2 titles are The Outback and Top Secret.

I just focused in on K magazine at the Orange Conf. this month. I am sorry I did not slow down enough to read it before. It is VERY good. I just got a subscription. Thank you and I thank God for what He is doing in kids ministry kingdom wide right now, it is very exciting!!

Thanks Jane, the children's options will be identical. So we are trying to create two teams. It will give those serving one hour the opportunity to be in the adult service the other hour. We actually have enough people serving now to fill all the needs if I can get them to commit to each one serving one hour every week instead of two or three hours once a month. I've been working on this for a couple of years and they are finally starting to get it.

We will be doing this soon ourselves, so I would be interested in people's responses too!!

Mark, We did this years ago and it had challenges but so many joys. Will the children's ministry options be identical or will you have different options each our for those who are there both hours?
When we did the transition (it was successful) - we spent a LOT OF TIME communicating, communicating, communicating to everyone. We made sure the parents knew what was happening, what to expect and we answered every question they could have come up with. We focused 100% on the perks of the new change. We made the first month party-ish and celebrated the growth and the changes. I meet weekly with the leadership team for about 6-8 weeks just so we did not miss a thing. We recruited a lot of extra help (grandparents) to be in the halls the first month to help direct people, answer questions.... Many of those extras stayed on! We did new signs so everything was clear and easy to follow. Thankfully, most of the 'goofs' happened with people who were very active in the church so they were very willing to show a lot of grace and that helped to. Two words stand out: communicate and positive!!

QUESTION? We are going to two identical services in the morning beginning in September, due to limitations on the size of our building and parking areas. This means double children's ministries and we have been having meetings with each group to discuss the logistics, etc. Has anyone out there gone through this recently? If so what suggestions do you have to smooth the transition and meet all the needs? Thanks for your thoughts.

From everything I've looked at so far, this is the most RELEVANT magazine and at the same time easiest to read through, that there is out there in CM.
