Happy New Year in September?!?!

Ok...so we all know that children's pastors are a little, well....different. I can say that. I am one. So it would make sense that our new year doesn't start Janauary 1st like the rest of the USA. Here in the Children's Ministry department at Alliance Friends Church, I would say our new year begins the first Sunday in September. The craziness of summer is over, kids are back in school with their new clothes and new shoes, new backpacks and school supplies...and there's really a sense of "newness… Continue

Summertime

Summer may be a time for vacations for most, but I've found that as a Children's Pastor, it's not about vacations at all! Summer for a children's pastor is full of VBS, camps, mission trips, sports games, city festivities, etc. It's a time when we may feel overwhelmed but while all our friends are hitting the beach, we can be hitting the streets. Getting kids to come to our programs and invest in them with friendships that will point them to the best friend they will make this summer, Jesus!! I'… Continue

Day off??? What's that?

Regardless of when I post on the door of my office when my day off is, I know that I will undoubtedly receive a phone call or email from the church. I won't say that I particularly mind this, but it does seem that I have no day off. And I'm wondering if as a Children's Pastor, should I really get a day off? Those children are still there. Still there with their problems and insecurities. The church is still there, providing a place of solace for people who need it. I think that more than calling… Continue

In like a lion....

They say that March comes in like a lion and out like a lamb. That phrase is proving itself all too true here in Northeast Ohio. The temperature was a frigid 15 degrees when I left for work at the Y this morning at 6am! I'm at the church office now and it's not much warmer in my office. Haha! Some hot chocolate helped a bit, though. I just got done ordering the curriculum for our summer day camp. I found a creative arts camp on timbuktoons.com. It was originally $49, but I picked it up for $10!!… Continue

It's beginning to FEEL a lot like Christmas??

Since when did there have to be 500 billion things going on for it to feel like Christmas? I don't know about you, but if you're experiencing the kind of schedule that I have this season, it's getting harder and harder to have that "Christmas feeling". From children's Christmas programs, to shopping, to parties, to cookie exchanges, to wrapping gifts, to shoveling snow, to decorating, to sending out Christmas cards, this can be the most hectic time of year, not the "most wonderful time of the ye… Continue

Hello, Trisha! I see you’re planning on attending CPC in Nashville—how exciting!

I’d like to invite you to a very special Summer Program Focus Group. It will be a great opportunity for you to talk to VBS product developers about your summer program likes, dislikes, and wish lists. This group will be held on Wednesday, January 7th, 8:00–9:00am, in Ryman Studio MFO of the Gaylord Opreyland Hotel.

Get your voice heard, have some fun, and network with fellow cmconnect members! Your opinion is very important, so I hope to see you there!

Feel free to write me back if you have any questions.

Blessings on your ministry,

Rebekah Largent
