I remember I went to a conference that taught you to blow up three balloons and pop one if the kids got too loud. If any balloons remained, the kids could get a small prize at the end. Not something I ever tried, but I think it might be a little sca…

Great question. I work at a fairly small church, so I have the time to talk with them about what this decision means. We then work towards getting them baptized and helping them grow their faith through continued conversation. We also have been try…

Sounds like you did the right thing. There is space for redemption, I pray he will find it soon. Alcoholism is such a sad disease, it has ailed many members of my family.

Big Changes

Just wanted to give everyone an update and explanation as to why I felt the Lord moving my wife and I on from our Children's Pastor position. A few things have been happening that have helped me to make this decision.

If you did not hear or were unaware, my father suffered a tear in his aorta on September 11th. I went and spent a week with him, which was truly a life changing week in so many ways. I vowed when I came back from Kansas that I would slow down my life and be more healthy in all way… Continue

Movin' on Up and A Little Gossip

Cue - The Jefferson's Theme Song

Today we had our church's first Move Up Sunday for our 6th graders. It was really great to recognize the kids who I have been able to spend time with over the last 17 months. I am really excited to see them growing up and moving into our youth ministry. Of course I hate to let them go as well.

We had the kids sit with their parents until we celebrated and the kids then went with me into our elementary area. I decided on Saturday that I would share a book with t… Continue

Why is the ACMA is so important?

I was so excited to see Michael begin this group which is free, but even this is lacking something. I have seen a lot of discussion on the newly formed ACMA. I, for one, am really excited to finally have a formal organization. It seems that, for too long, we have been divided between popular paid sites, such as kidology, etc...

I think that ACMA brings another level of accountability to our profession. I think it will be something that churches will consider as they look into future applicants.… Continue

Why I Don't Believe in VBS

Yes, I know I may be hung out to dry for this one. I know that 98% of churches have a VBS. I get it. I understand why. I don't think there is anything wrong for other people doing them, I just know they are not for me. Here are a few reasons why...

1. Vacation Bible Schools are not vacations for anyone.
2. The area I work in has year-round schools.
3. I think camp is much better option for kids, it separates them from their stuff (DS, video games, etc...)
4. Vacation Bible School is all about t… Continue

Chad,
My wife and I were thinking about attending your small group meeting tomorrow night. We were wondering if you could tell us a little bit about the group and where in Apex it is located. My wife's feeling a little under the weather at the moment, so I'm not completely certain that we will attend.

Thanks!

Hey -- how did the kid's event go? We got back late on Saturday. I'm hoping it went well and everyone had a fun time - the museum is awesome! Thanks so much for coordinating it.

PS I noticed you have another computer in there -- is that working out for you, or should I check with Russ on any resources? Were you able to use the software that I shared? Not sure if it was helpful or not. Campbell mentioned about bringing an XBOX game in to church -- do you now have an XBOX there?
